A week full of animated highlights – The awardees 2015

With about 80,000 visitors the 22nd Stuttgart Festival of Animated Film (ITFS) came to an end this Sunday, May 10, 2015. The visitors witnessed over 1,000 films in about 200 single events.

Within the 22nd Stuttgart Festival of Animated Film the best productions in the field of applied animation received their prizes in the evening of May 8, 2015 in the Mercedes-Benz Museum Stuttgart at the
Animated Com Award (ACA). In this competition the best applied animation in the fields of advertising, spatial communication and technology are awarded. Also the special prizes Future needs Derivation – Individual Mobility by the Daimler AG and the Lapp Connected Award by U. I. Lapp GmbH have been given.

The Awardees

Main Prize: Arnaud & Jérôme (France) – „League of Legends: Warriors“.

Advertising: Manvsmachine (Great Britain) – „Nike Mercurial Superfly IV“

Technology: Mark Huskisson (Great Britain) – „Ghost Peloton“

Spatial Communication: Marten Persiel (Deutschland) – „Smart Ampelmännchen“

Future needs Derivation – Mobility in a Digital World: Nate Theis (USA) – „Driving“

Ralf Schmitz gewinnt Dt. Animationssprecherpreis

Ralf Schmitz, who was nominated for his speaking part of “Dwarf Sunny” in “7th Dwarf”, won the award and therefore got a “Trickstar” within the event “Animation Comedy”. Also nominated have been Carolin Kebekus (“Porcupine Matilda” in “Little Dragon Coconut”) and Elyas M’Barek (“Paddington” in “Paddington”).

At “Stories and Series in the New Castle” two winners were awarded on Tuesday evening: “Robbi, Tobbi und das Fliewatüüt” by Jan Berger with the German Animation Screenplay Award, “Cleo” by Ana Sánchez-Gijón the Tricks for Kids-Award for the Best Children’s Animated Series.

This year Reed MIDEM, organizes of the worldwide biggest film- and digital content fair, could be won as a partner. “Cleo” now gets a registration for MIPJunior and will be included in the MIPJunior Digital Library.

At the Animated Com Award prizes will be awarded for outstanding work in the areas of advertising, spatial communication and technology, and special awards of the Daimler AG and the U.I. Lapp GmbH.

Nominees are e.g. in the category Advertising Nike Mercurial Superfly IV and League of Legends, within Spatial Communication Smart Ampelmännchen and within Technology Assassin’s Creed Unity: Arno Master.

Among the awarding and other highlights, keynote speaker Jörn Großhans, VFX Supervisor at Mackevision – recently Emmy-awarded for “Game of Thrones” – gives insights into his work.

Arab Animation Forum 2015 in cooperation with Robert Bosch Stiftung

The Arab Animation Forum takes place from May 7-10, 2015 within the framework of Stuttgart Festival of Animated Film. The Forum brings together young animation filmmakers and producers from Germany and the Arab World, aiming to identify interesting projects and to connect potential co-production partners concerning a possible application for the Film Prize for International Cooperation of the Robert Bosch Stiftung. Several meetings, workshops, consultings, pitching and matching sessions will be held.

Call for Papers

The academic symposium “Color in Animation, Comics and Literature” at the Stuttgart International Festival of Animated Film 2015 in collaboration with the Society of Animation Studies, the School of Art, Design and Media at Nanyang Technological University Singapore, the Institute of Media Studies at Eberhard Karls University Tübingen and the Literaturhaus Stuttgart.

This one-day symposium welcomes papers, which negotiate the role and use of color in the fields of literature, illustration, graphic storytelling and animation.

The deadline for submissions is Monday, March 9, 2015. Authors of accepted papers will be notified in the last week of March.

The call is open to all interested scholars, researchers and practitioners.
