Sound design plays a special role in animated film, as there is no classic original sound as is the case in feature films or documentaries. Foley artist and sound designer Luis Schöffend will give an insight into organisational, creative and technical issues that are relevant to the sound design of animated films. The lecture is aimed at all filmmakers from the animated film sector as well as interested listeners from other trades. Various film examples will be used to show how hand-made sounds and creative sound designs breathe life into animated images. And the approach to sound design is as different as every film.

Luis Schöffend works as a sound designer on animated, scenic and documentary films, games, radio plays, theatre and performances. As a sound designer, his work can be heard above all in animated films and series as well as in experimental formats.

The films and their sound design in which Luis has been involved have been honoured several times, including the German Film Award (‘Lola, best sound design’) and at the Dresden Film Festival (‘Goldener Reiter, film sound’).

Together with the MFG and the Animation Media Creators Region Stuttgart (AMCRS), the ITFS organises the Animation Lounge as a pre-programme to the monthly network meeting of the film industry (Jour Fixe).
