FMX is one of the world’s most influential conferences for the creative industries and a magnet for international media and entertainment artists and producers. Running parallel to the Stuttgart International Festival of Animated Film (ITFS), FMX is returning to four days on site from April 23 to 26, exploring the latest in Animation, Visual Effects, Interactive and Immersive Media. Most of the content will be available on demand from April 27 all through May.
FMX 2024: Connecting Ideas
This year’s FMX theme CONNECTING IDEAS revolves around the question: Is the Media & Entertainment community moving closer together? A growing number of sharing platforms, open standards and other initiatives have emerged recently, aiming to increase the ease, efficiency and creativity of how people cooperate.
FMX 2024 is dedicating a special focus to the connective issues between people collaborating across platforms, pipelines and distances – from interoperability to the disruptions shaking up film production.
FMX Program Highlights
Around 300 speakers will talk about animated features and shorts like NIMONA and WAR IS OVER!, feature films like THE CREATOR, POOR THINGS und THE MARVELS, episodic productions like PERCY JACKSON, LOKI 2 and DOCTOR WHO, and many more. On top of that, there will be panel discussions, workshops, and exhibition rooms filled with the latest and greatest in VFX, animation, XR, recruitment, hard- and software, education, and more. Other hot topics at FMX are Artificial Intelligence, Sustainability, and Diversity, Equity& Inclusion.

Animation Production Days 2024
Business Platform for the International Animation Industry
Animation Production Days (APD) is the only German co-production and financing marketplace event which is focused exclusively on animation. It is taking place as part of the 31th Stuttgart International Festival of Animated Film (ITFS) and the FMX – Film & Media Exchange. At APD, German and international producers present their films, series, games and cross-media projects to potential co-production partners, broadcasters, streamers, distributors, sales agents, funders and investors in a series of fruitful one-to-one meetings.
Separate accreditation is required for participation in APD.

APD Conference (Tue, 23 April, 13:45 – 16:30)
The APD Conference is an integral part of the programme and focuses on discussing trends and challenges in the industry. The first part of the conference will delve into the current state of AI in the animation industry. In the second part of the conference producers will discuss the benefits and challenges of collaborating across multiple European countries and will share valuable insights into the coproduction process of their award-winning European animated films.
The APD Conference is open to APD, FMX and ITFS Professional accredited attendees.

NaturVision Filmfestival
The NaturVision film festival provides a forum for nature and environmental films with socio-political aspirations: it aims to inform, encourage people to rethink and inspire enthusiasm for nature and the environment with special films. The Central Filmtheater in Ludwigsburg is home to the international competition for nature, animal, and environmental films.
The festival also serves as an industry meeting for film and TV professionals.
A special meeting place during the festival is the Open Air: films are shown here free to the public, joined by a colourful children’s programme and a large market of perspectives with sustainable products, information stands and regional gastronomy.
