International Competition

The international competition is the artistic heart of the Festival. Here you will find first-rate, artistic animated shorts produced in the last year. An international jury, made up of prominent figures in animated film, presents the following awards:

  • Grand Prix: State of Baden-Württemberg and City of Stuttgart Grand Award for Animated Film with a cash prize of 15,000 euros.

  • Lotte Reiniger Promotion Award for Animated Film: Award for the best graduation film by a film student with a cash prize of 10,000 euros. Sponsored by MFG Film Funding Baden-Württemberg.

  • SWR Audience Award: 6,000 euros in prize money

Young Animation

The Young Animation competition screens the best films made by students from international film and art schools.

  • The award for the best student film is accompanied by 2,500 euros in prize money and is sponsored by Landesanstalt für Kommunikation Baden-Württemberg and MFG Film Funding Baden-Württemberg.

  • The FANtastic Award with a cash prize of 1,000 euros. Prize for the best animation talent – donated by the Animation Family, the most faithful fans of ITFS.

Tricks for Kids

The children’s film festival, Tricks for Kids, presents animated children’s films and series that are just as challenging as they are entertaining.

  • The award for the best children’s animated film totals 4,000 euros and is sponsored by Studio 100 Media GmbH. The winner is selected by a jury of children.

  • Award for the best children’s animated series, sponsored by MIP Junior 2016. The winner is selected by a jury of experts.

ANIMATED COM AWARD 2016
Competition for applied animation in the field of Advertising // Spatial Communication and Technology

Prizes will be awarded for outstanding work in the areas of advertising, spatial communication and technology. In addition, the special award “Future needs derivation – Communication and Networking in a Mobile world“ is offered by the Mercedes-Benz Museum. The passion for automobile should be visualised and sustainable solutions for individual needs expressed in a playful manner. All techniques ranging from 3D computer animation to 2D cell animation and stop motion are accepted.

Call for Entries for Animated Com Award has started! Prizes will be awarded for outstanding work in the areas of advertising, spatial communication and technology. Also we present this year a spezial award Lapp Connected Award, 2.500 euros in prize money, sponsored by U.I. Lapp GmbH für productions, telling about the international connections of industries, humans and cultures.

All non-student participants from German-speaking countries are automatically (free of charge) qualified for the Spotlight Animated Com Award. A separate registration via the Spotlight registration form is not necessary. Students can register their submissions at www.spotlight-festival.de

German Animation Screenplay Award

This award aims to promote outstanding German-language screenplays for feature-length animated films. The award is accompanied by 2,500 euros in prize money and is sponsored by Telepool GmbH. The call for submissions will be made separately in November.

The award for the best German-language dubbing artist in a feature-length animated film – in cooperation with the Renitenztheater.

The 48H Animation Jam

International teams put themselves at the mercy of the clock and take on the challenge of producing an animated short film about the ITFS mascot, Trixi, in just 48 hours. The Crazy Horse Session takes place in co-operation with M.A.R.K.13 electronic media and is supported by MFG Film Funding Baden-Württemberg and Landesanstalt für Kommunikation Baden-Württemberg.

Animation students as well as independent animators and animation producers aged 30 years or younger may participate. The organisers will choose four to five teams from all of the applicants. All of the teams, each with two members, must develop within 48 hours an animated film between 30 seconds and 2 minutes) using the same character – the Festival’s mascot Trixi.

Start: Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at noon / End: Friday, April 29, 2016 at noon.

A jury will select the best film. All films will be presented during the 48h Animation Jam award ceremony.

Deadline for applications: February 1, 2016.

Tele 5 “Leider Geil!” Special Award

Tele 5 presents the special award that goes across competitions and categories: “Leider Geil!”, with a cash award of 5,000 euros.
