Young Animation

"The jury would like to thank the student film makers for heir confidence in presenting us with the rich variety of their work. In the end it came down to two strong and highly appealing films: “About Socks and Love” and “Never Drive a Car When you are Dead”. In the quality of their design and attitude these two films represent two positions that could not be more different from each other. Unfortunately the jury can only give one award."

  "The award goes to: About Socks and Love. Michaele Copicova worked the every day issue of the “male sock” into a hilarious – and wonderfully drawn film making it a truly intimate piece."

• Special Mention: "Never Drive a Car when You are Dead" by Gregor Dashuber from Germany
  "Gregor Dashuber wins an honorary mention for his exceptional film "Never Drive a Car when You are Dead. His film about a bizarre Berlin Bohème community is full of fantasy and truth at the same time. It is both aggressive and loving. With one word it is punk! One could not be undecided or not caring about this film. You can either love it or hate it. With one work: It’s punk."

Animated Series

• Award winner Animated Series: "Histoires Comme Ca – L´Enfant D´Elephant" ("Just so stories - The elephant's child") by Jean-Jacques Prunes from France
  "The price for the best Animated Series goes to "Histoires Comme Ca – L´Enfant D´Elephant" ("Just so stories - The elephant's child") by Jean-Jacques Prunes from France 2009. We like to name at first the extraordinary Art-Work and Art-Direction. The artistical style fits perfect to the traditional story. We found it difficult to judge together the programs Adult/Family/Kids and Pre-School. This series greatly works for all of these categories."

• Special Mention: "Moot Moot" ("L´Enfer De La Mode") by Francois Reczulsky.
  "Very entertaining comedy for adults, good directing with perfect feeling for timing and jokes."

AniMovie

• Award winner AniMovie: "Mary&Max" by Adam Elliot from Australia
  "The jury was very impressed with the quality of all the films we viewed, and it was very difficult to choose only one film to be the best of the festival. There were many animation styles and stories to consider and the deliberations were very intense. At the end the jury felt that "Mary and Max" had the most original and impressive non-traditional story, style and format of all the films. The director’s vision and the realization of that vision is stunning on a visual and emotional level. The art direction and animation form of the film created a startlingly unique frame for the lives of two characters whose interior lives are filled with the best of human empathy and the deepest of human flaws. "Mary and Max" are characters and their story inspires a deep empathy on a universal level for the audience. For originality story and the beautiful realization of the film’s visual style, the jury found it to be the Best Feature Length Animated Film of the festival."

• Special Mention: "Idiots and Angels" by Bill Plympton
  "'Idiots and Angels' is a beautifully ironic morality tale of a man with no empathy or love for his fellow humans until he is forced to confront the good that lies within him. The jury was very impressed with the direction and style of the animation in the film. The director creates the film with a visual form that borders on minimalism, but at the same time overflows with rich visual imagery that evokes an emotional connection between the audience to the point that they can feel empathy for a character who is, at the beginning of the film, utterly without merit as a human being."

Tricks for Kids

Award winner Tricks for Kids: "The Happy Duckling" by Gili Dolev

Theo: "We have viewed this film and soon we came to the conclusion that this film has a great chance of winning the competition."
