Stories and Series in the New Castle
Presentation of the German Animation Screenplay Award 2014 and the Award for the best Children’s Animated Series
The Stuttgart Festival of Animated Film 2014 will be presenting the 8th German Animation Screenplay Award for the best German screenplay for an animated film. For the first time, the presentation will take place in the impressive White Hall of the New Castle. As part of the award ceremony, the award for the best Children’s Animated Series will also be presented.
The German Animation Screenplay Award carries a cash prize of 2.500 euros which has been donated by Telepool GmbH. The objective of the award is to promote promising German language animated feature films in the development phase and to contribute towards improving the quality of content. Furthermore it should emphasize the importance of professional screenwriters for the production of good texts and in turn attractive films. Complete screenplays or an informative outline with an excerpt from the screenplay – at least 10 pages long – can be submitted. Screenplays for films already produced at the time of the award ceremony are not permitted. 2013 the winner was “Molly Monster – Der Film” by John Chambers.
Ten of the screenplays submitted were selected for the shortlist. Judith Schenten and Christine Haupt were responsible for pre-selection and editing. The jury – comprising Julia Müntefering (Programme Acquisition & Sales, Telepool Munich), Holger Weiss, (Head of animation, M.a.r.k.13, Stuttgart) and the screenwriters John Chambers and Oliver Huzly – nominated three screenplays for the final round. Excerpts from the nominated screenplays will be read by the actor and audiobook narrator Anna Thalbach at the award ceremony.
In conjunction with the Screenplay Award, the ITFS is offering five screenwriting workshops with famous national and international animators and authors. These workshops will be held in co-operation with the MFG Filmförderung Baden-Wuerttemberg, the DrehbuchCamp, the Heinrich Böll Foundation and the Stuttgart Media University.
