Family Programme

Learning through play with animated films

For families, children and young people, the ITFS offers an age-appropriate programme with special films, hands-on activities and workshops. Whether in the open air, in the festival cinemas or in our Activity Area – there is something for everyone in this programme.

It’s magic!

Open Air

During the festival week, Schlossplatz is transformed into an open-air cinema. Short and feature-length films are shown daily on the giant LED screen – free open-air cinema for everyone. What do you need? A picnic blanket, family or friends and a desire to discover new worlds.

In the Cinema

Can’t get enough of animation? Then our cinema programme is just the thing for you.

We have put together an international selection of the latest feature-length films for the AniMovie/Kids competition. And best of all, many of the filmmakers will be present in person to introduce their films in the cinema. Foreign-language films will be spoken live in German.

Participatory Programme and Workshops

Here, children and young people can make their own tricks and set pictures in motion. Whether animated film, comic and games workshops or an open creative programme – there is something for everyone in the Activity Area.

Educationally valuable: the free workshops promote the cultural education of children and young people, stimulate their creativity and eagerness to experiment and familiarise them with the variety of animation techniques. Most of the participatory programmes can be attended spontaneously and without registration, while a few require prior registration. More information can be found on the respective event pages.

Intensive Workshop

And what happens when children make their own animated films? In a full-day intensive workshop, eleven to 16-year-olds produce their own stop-motion film with the support of animation professionals, which will be shown at the upcoming festival. First they develop their story, then they animate it and set it to music. The next day, they meet film professionals at the Open Air.
