Among all nominees of the 90th Academy Awards (Oscars) there are a lot of animation films in reference to the International Festival of Animated Film Stuttgart. We’d like to congratulate sincerely all nominees.
Director and program advisory board Jakob Schuh is nominated for “Revolting Rhymes” in the section “Animated Short Film”. The film premiered at last years festival and will be shown in this years competition of “Tricks for Kids”. Furthermore the feature film “The Breadwinner” from studio Cartoon Saloon, produced by Angelina Jolie, will be shown at ITFS for the first time in Germany. There will also be a studio presentation of the Oscar-nominated studio from Ireland. “Negative Space” from Ru Kuwahata and Max Porter from France, which is Oscar-nominated, too, will run in the International Competition of ITFS.
Breakthru Films is nominated for their feature film “Loving Vincent”; in 2017 the studio won the Trickstar Business Award for “The Shadows”. A long time collaboration unites the festival with MOPA – L’École du Film d’Animation et de l’image de Synthèse, that is nominated for “Dear basketball”.
The winner of the ITFS-grand prix always have good chances for an Oscar which is because they are automatically qualified for the Academy Award-longlist. Therefore many artists, partners and friends of the festival are among the awardees.
