Games & installations to join in

Long March: Restart // Feng Mengbo, computer game, 2008
The 16-meter-long video installation of the Chinese artist Feng Mengbo can be found in the dome of the Kunstgebäude. In the persiflage on the heroes myth of the “Long March”, you control a soldier of the Red Army through all of China. In cooperation with ZKM | Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe.

Playful Art: Digital games are one of the most multifaceted media at all, their design possibilities are endless. Here you can find cross-border games between video game and animation film.

Meaningful Games: Computer games can be political media. The combination of game and politics can be experienced at “This War of Mine” or “The Migrant Trail”.

//////////fur//// – Art Entertainment Interfaces: The artist duo //////////fur//// develops machines, which are a mixture of media criticism and apparatus parody. You can test their “PainStation” in the GameZone.

GameZone Talents

Four universities show the newly developed games of their students. Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg’s Animationsinstitut brings along its AniPlay projects: As “Dreammakers” you create dreams for two in the laboratory. In the virtual reality experience “Heart of the Forest – Light up your Soul” you fill the forest with light and sound. The Institute for Games of the Stuttgart Media University presents games for mobile, PC and VR. Walk on the moon, find out what happened with “Elena” and save the kittens. The Trickfilmklasse of School of Art and Design Kassel presents games for console, mobile, VR and online: In “Where’s Joe” you are a giant, in “Ghost Catcher” you can be spirit or ghost hunters. The “Games” section of Zurich University of the Arts shows prototypes and (almost) finished games: here you can meet cyclops (“Monocular”), drive a curiosity vehicle or defend a castle.
