Bruce Bickford: Underground Cult Night
6. May 2017, 23:00 - 7. May 2017, 1:00
The psychedelic-dark clay animation by Bruce Bickford, born in 1947, became famous in the 1970s and 1980s primarily due to his co-operation with Frank Zappa, which led to films like “The Amazing Mr. Bickford” (1987). In the mid-1960s, Bruce Bickford focussed on the close connection and metamorphosis of objects and people using his puppet and clay animation. The ITFS shows films from the last 30 years that make clear why Zappa was so interested in Bickford’s working methods: precise crafting, improvisation and an overwhelming fantasy. His most recent film “Attila”, which also plainly demonstrates his outstanding talent at drawing, will premiere. The Bickford Cult Night will take place in co-operation with the Stadthaus Ulm, which is currently showing the first large solo exhibition with models, drawings and puppets by Bruce Bickford. The exhibition “Herr Bickford entdeckt ein neues Land” (Mr. Bickford discovers a new country) is open until 18 June2017.
