Hommage Fjodor Chitruk

To the 100 birthday of Fjodor Chitruk (†2012) we dedicated the master of russian animation two special film programmes: In both of them we see a documentary of the work of the animator and director, accompanied by Chitruks best short films.

Der Hauch des kleinen Gottes (The Spirit of a Genius)

Born on the 1st May 1917, Chitruk was a witness of Russian history of last century. An important innovator, he liberated the Soviet animated film from Stalinist aesthetic and has helped the genre achieve world-wide recognition since the beginning oft he sixties of last century. The Spirit of Genius shows how Khitruk succeeded in practising „a humane form of socialism“ in an authoritarian system and producing films with a sensitive understanding oft he concerns and joys – big and small – of people living under state socialism. Today, Chitruk is often compared with another icon of Russian film art: Sergei Eisenstein. Apart from interviews with numerous students and colleagues of Chitruk’s, the film introduces us to four of Chitruk’s main works: „History of a crime“, „Man in frame“, Winnie Pooh“ and „Film, Film, Film“.
