Extravagant, unique and strange – Ivan Maximov draws attention in the animated film landscape! Artist, animator, script writer and director in one, he thrills audiences with his poetic absurdity and his authentic, aesthetic focus.Born in Moscow in 1958 as the child of renowned physicists, Ivan Maximov first began an academic career and studied at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology. After being hired at the Russian Space Research Institute in Moscow, he attended courses for film direction and script writing starting in 1986. In 1989, his debut film “From Left to Right” was shown. That was followed by his diploma film “5/4”, which received many awards and helped him to a direct but alsocontroversial breakout in the animated film scene. In his films, Ivan Maximov creates a strange world full of animal-like creatures that carry out bizarre everyday tasks. This world and its highly peculiar but still loveable inhabitants are characteristic of Ivan Maximov’s unique style even today and make up a closed system with its own logic and reason. This often doesn’t reveal itself until closer inspection and frequently gives rise to very different interpretations. Besides his work as a caricature artist and various teaching contracts, in 2003 Ivan Maximov developed the computer game “Full Pipe”. In 2016, “Alternative Walk” came out as his most recent short film about a walk in the park far from any kind of normality.Ivan Maximov’s films captivate with their perfect interaction between pictures and music and their expressive, detailed scenes. Full of humour and with a lyrical undertone, he has always been successful in creating a new, unique world that still inspires discussions today.
