Music & Animation: Chad VanGaalen and Band

The Canadian independent musician and animation artist Chad VanGaalen is coming to the ITFS. At the Manufaktur Schorndorf, he and his band will play a special concert accompanied by his own animated music videos, which the German video artist Martin Knobel will rearrange live to the music. In a continuous exchange with the musicians on stage (voice, guitar, bass and percussion), this creates a unique audio-visual experience for the audience. Chad VanGaalen’s sixth album “Light Information” came out in September 2017 with the label “Sub Pop”, and after a sold-out European tour, he is now playing an exclusive animation concert – as the core of his work exhibition at the ITFS. Just as his current album and his animated music videos, the concert is an invitation to dive into future worlds, full of stories about paranoia, disembodiment and isolation – but also full of playfulness, empathy and intimacy. Chad VanGaalen creates bizarre, sometimes surprising, but always fantastical worlds of images to his music: Worlds populated by extra-terrestrials and androids – as a symbol of the alienation that has been a constant focus in his musical creations from the beginning. Chad VanGaalen creates his unconventional yet melodic soundscapes with various experimental instruments, as well, which he has collected in his studio garage in Calgary over the years. His sound is an interesting mix of low fi-folk and psychedelic garage-pop. Look forward to a fantastical rock trip that is out of this world.
