„The Love for Three Oranges”– Stuttgart Opera Matineé
5. May , 11:00 - 13:00
Join the big opera experience as we bring the Festival of Animated Film Stuttgart to a close! For the fourth time, the ITFS Open-Air Matinee takes place on Sunday in cooperation with the Stuttgart Opera. This year, we present “The Love for Three Oranges” by Sergei Prokofiev – staged as a big fairy-tale spectacle for the whole family by Axel Ranisch. The story follows a melancholic prince who cannot laugh. He is eventually cured through a sudden outburst of schadenfreude, however, at the same time he is cursed to fall in love with three oranges. Joined by his best friend, he sets out to find these oranges – and they embark on a journey that is both bizarre and entertaining. Axel Ranisch transfers the story to a shiny and colourful world of pixels reminiscent of a 90s computer game: the world of “Orange Desert III”. This game within a game also allows for the transformation of Prokofiev’s opera, arranged to take place on various narrative levels, into the respective images: on stage, we can not only see the prince’s quest but also mighty wizards quarreling over the winning chances of the protagonist on the one hand, and the representatives of different artistic genres – played by the wonderfully versatile Staatsoper choir – fighting about the whole play on the other: is it a tragedy, a comedy, slapstick, or something completely different what we see here? Under the musical direction of Alejo Pérez.
