The other World of The Simpsons

Few here may realize that The Simpsons started as short animated skits interspersed on The Tracey Ullman Show, starting in 1987. Two short years later, I found I had gone from Simpsons animator to Simpsons director. My first assignment in that capacity: design the main title. I will be presenting a historic look back – to the beginnings when it was quirky short animation, to the TV show and how it evolved. Also, time permitting, a description of how we went from original hand-painted production to the current digital composite process. I plan to show examples of animation, storyboards, and clips from shows, as well as a glance at “The Simpsons Movie” (2007). And as a special inclusion, a showing of the recently finished episode that I happened to write: “Lisa Gets The Blues”.
