India Music & Animation - presented by U.I. Lapp GmbH and the Indian Honorary Consulate Stuttgart
SAT, 26.04. // 9 pm // Gloria 2
The programme India Music & Animation offers a unique opportunity to watch Indian animation short films that give an insight into the diversity and creativity of Indian animation artists.
Ranging from the years 2006 to 2013, the films are the work of university students, independent film-makers and professional studios. Some of them won numerous awards like “Printed Rainbow” by Gintanjali Rao, which premiered in Cannes, “Raah” by Sanjay Jangir or “Paranoia”.
The topics and visualization of the films mirror the diverse and vivid cultures and social realities of the country. Old, traditional Indian stories animated with shadow puppets stand next to modern narratives which tell of loneliness and despair, hope and happiness, love and friendship. The animation techniques range from cel animation to 2D and 3D computer animation. The variety of the film programme finds its expression in the music video “Alchemy”: “India is a colourful nation and the spread of colours was our simile of Indian life that includes progress, change, conflict, symbiotic existence and India’s giant leap towards progress, which we wanted to portray in an animated format.”
The film programme will be initiated with a musical performance by Shakti and Sargam (sitar and voice).
