Best of International Competition

BEST OF INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION shows the award-winners along with further outstanding, animated films of the international short film competition from ITFS 2018. The spectrum of styles encompasses films such as the artfully animated documentary “Obon” with its touching narration, “Cat Days” with its beautifully abstract images, and “Ugly”, a combination of puppeteering and dynamic computer simulation. The topics of the films too are as multifaceted as life and humanity. With geometric and surrealistic images, the experimental short film “Poliangular” from Mexico presents a panorama of human fears, “Negative Space” was nominated for an Academy Award and, with feeling and humour, portrays a father-son relationship which is complicated and affectionate at the same time, while Anna Mantzari’s “Enough” briefly, bluntly and cheerfully presents people who dare to yield to their emotions in everyday situations.
