Panel AG Animationsfilm: Committed to Diversity? Talking about Animation on German Television.

Every broadcaster in Germany, regardless whether public or private, must adhere to legal guidelines for the promotion of information and diversity; and diversity applies to animation, too. Animation is one of the crowd pullers on television – attracting not only children and youths – and can offer a wide range of formats and genres. But producers in Germany complain about a lack of orders and timeslots as well as tight budgets. How does that tally? So what is the true status of animation on television? Do broadcasters meet their viewers’ needs, and do they follow the guidelines? Representatives of media policy discuss the broadcasters’ mandateand the possibilities of animation. Another issue for discussion is the impact on the industry. The discussion group marks a new study by AG Animationsfilm on the situation of animation on television due to be published in time for ITFS 2018.
