“Loving Vincent”, both a box office and critical success, was the first oil-painted film. But was it a one-off? Does oil-painting animation by hand have a place amongst the array of modern film techniques? We at BreakThru think it has, and have three new oil-painting animation films underway. The now almost finished “The Peasants”, based on the Nobel Prize winning novel by Wladyslaw Reymont, as well as two upcoming features: an adaption of Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” and “The Blaze”, based on an original script by Hugh Welchman. VFX and Animation Producer Monila Folkierska-Zukowska will discuss how BreakThru’s painting animation techniques evolved since “Loving Vincent”.
