Animation Special in March: Female Gaze
In cooperation with Montagegruppe for International Women’s Day
Rotating bodies, singing fish, swirling thoughts – the Animation Special Female Gaze – Female Animators and Their View on the World is dedicated to the unique perspectives of European female animation artists and their creative exploration of the medium. All films shown are directed by women with a connection to Stuttgart and the Stuttgart International Festival of Animated Film (ITFS), with many of them presenting their latest works in the International Competition at the upcoming festival edition in May.
The audience can look forward to a visually and thematically diverse programme – ranging from puppet animation to pin-screen animation, from oil on glass to watercolour. The films take us on poetic, surreal journeys – into distant galaxies, deserted shopping malls, call centres, memories, thoughts, and the relationships between women, men, and mice. In adavance there will a talk with filmmaker Shoko Hara and afterwards the ITFS Friends’ Association invites you to discuss the programme at the theatre’s bar Rakete. A must-see for anyone eager to discover powerful stories, artistic innovation, and female perspectives in animation!
