ITFS Tricks for Kids Competition

The latest international short films in four age-appropriate programmes selected by a jury of experts. Moderated film discussions, live German dubbing and a children’s jury bring the cinema experience to life and encourage open exchange about stories, topics and values.

Where Cinema becomes a Rollercoaster!

Short films from all over the world that enchant and touch, entertain and make you think – that’s what Tricks for Kids is all about. Foreign-language films are spoken live in German. If the filmmakers are guests at the festival, they join the young audience at the cinema and answer their questions.

The Tricks for Kids short film competition also includes an award ceremony: On the large open-air stage, the kids’ jury presents the Tricks for Kids Award to the strongest short film for children. This year we will off a translation into German sign language for the first time. And what happens when children make their own animated films? We’ll show you!

Magical short films to discover, laugh and marvel at – for all animated film fans from Kindergarten and primary school to teenage years.

Kids’ Jury

Children themselves become active in the Tricks for Kids short film competition: film enthusiasts between the ages of ten and twelve have the opportunity to take part in the festival as kids’ jurors. You can apply from January onwards.

The kids’ jury acts like a professional film jury at the Festival: watch exciting animated short films and discuss them together as well as award a real prize to the winning film on the big open-air stage at the Tricks for Kids award ceremony on Sunday! All this is possible as a kids’ juror at the ITFS.

In addition, the jury members will be named on the homepage like the adult competition juries and will receive free accreditation for the festival. The jury work will be professionally supervised by an experienced media educator during the festival week.
