Exhibition opening: Science Fiction and Underground – Chad VanGaalen’s Animation Project “Tarboz“

On the 16 screens in the Stadtbibliothek Stuttgart’s gallery b, a nonlinear version of Chad VanGaalen’s short film project “Tarboz” can be seen, which the artist has planned as part of an animated feature-film project “The Translated Log of Inhabitants”. In “Tarboz”, Chad VanGaalen further develops the world that he designed for his music videos ten years ago. In this bizarre world, populated by inter-galactic trash collectors, strange plants and androids, extra-terrestrials are normal. The filmdoes not follow any clear plotline but draws in viewers with its sound and images. Chad VanGaalen sees himself in the footsteps of “Barlowe’s Guide to Extraterrestrials” from 1979. “Tarboz” stands in the tradition of science fiction films from the 1970s, and it is not without reason that the title sounds similar to “Zardoz”, the famous post-apocalyptic film from 1974.Supported by the Embassy of Canada.
