For the third consecutive year already, the ITFS Open-Air Matinee takes place on Sunday, in cooperation with the Stuttgart Opera. This year we screen a recording of their “Don Giovanni” production, composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The cheerfully ironic staging by Andrea Moses, conducted by Antony Hermus , is an impressive demonstration of how all characters in this opera are only interested in their own advantage: Lies and manipulation are everywhere with Don Giovanni as the possibly most honest person among them. Before the opera, we screen an animated short film (6.5 minutes) which was developed by start-up Studio Seufz from Ludwigsburg especially for the new production of Gaetano Donizett‘s “Don Pasquale”, which is further proof of how good a match opera and animated film are. It had been their task to create an animated short together with costume designer Teresa Vergho, which tells audiences about the youth of the now 70 year old Don Pasquale. The film is presented as an integral of the opera production during the verture, and makes a second “appearance” during the “Serenade”, when Don Pasquale remembers these crucial moments of his life as in a dream.
