In Persona: Rob Valley

Robert Valley, originally from Vancouver Canada, is one of the most unique and innovative designers working in animation today: his hyper-graphic compositions and eccentric visual styles push the boundaries of cinematic storytelling. Sleek and sexy, Robert Valley’s work is Manga comic bookinspired and is as gorgeous in terms of design as it is in fluidity. Robert Valley is the type of artist whose animation is always cutting edge. His art can be found in music videos for famous bands such as Gorillaz and Metallica and advertising campaigns for well-known brands such as Nike or Coca-Cola. In the early 1990s he worked with Peter Chung on the animated TV series “Aeon Flux”, about ten years later he worked with Passion Pictures in London an did the art work for the music video game “The Beatles: Rock Band” togetherwith Pete Candeland. When he moved to Los Angeles in 2011 he first designed the characters for “Tron: Uprising” for Disney and then directed the “Wonder Woman DC Nation Shorts” for Warner Bros. Animation, finally making her cool again. During the last two years, Robert Valley wrote and directed his short animated film “Pear Cider and Cigarettes” which recently has been nominated for an Oscar.
