GameZone Talk: Meaningful Games – Games & Politics

The panel “Meaningful Games” looks at the topic of Games & Politics. The focus is on the question of how computer games can unfurl their political potential.Computer games can reveal critical perspectives on topics such as working conditions, gender issues, the surveillance state, military disputes, refugees and migration. For several years -– especially in the indie scene – we have seen a turn to explicit political content in games. Computer games reflect the society in which they are imbedded and in which they were created. It is therefore a logical consequence for games to implicitly or explicitly reflect on social issues, historical and political contexts, and discourses, and that these influence the games.
