The animated extra3 Cult Night

The political satire show “extra3” aired on NDR, a television channel targeting northern Germany, has a long history of integrating animations. It is high time to present a selection of the best satirical animations on the big screen. Animation is a medium particularly suited to the implementation of satirical content. Where else is it possible to quickly switch between styles, places and time levels, incorporate graphs, or simply celebrate the apocalypse? Production companies such as Hypolux from Berlin, Scopas from Frankfurt or SFA from Hamburg and filmmakers such as Alexander Lehmann have created many topical animations for the weekly show over the years. This resulted in puppet-animation formats such as “Kanzlerkantine”, characters like the nuclear mascot “Atomi”, or films like “Willkommen bei Facebook” by Alexander Lehmann, known for his internet-film “Du bist Terrorist”. In between film screenings, there is time to reminisce with attending filmmakers, and for them to tell audiences exciting anecdotes about their work for extra3.
