Welcome to our Festival media libary. Here you can find Animation on Demand, anytime and unlimited from May 3 to 16, 2021.
You will find selected animated films from the current competition year of the 28th Stuttgart International Festival of Animated Film as well as numerous curated supporting programmes. These include short films from our competition categories International Competition, Young Animation, Tricks for Kids, AniMovie and Trickstar Nature as well as from the sections Animation around Europe and In Persona.
The competition programmes will start at noon on different days of the Festival week from May 5, 2021 and will then be available continuously until May 16. Additional programme specials are only available for a short time, so it’s worth checking back every day.
Special highlights are our Festival galas in the live stream: the opening of ITFS 2021 on Tuesday, May 4 at 7 pm, the Trickstar Professional Awards on Friday, May 7 at 6 pm, the Tricks for Kids awards ceremony for the whole family on Saturday, May 8 at 6 pm and, of course, the ITFS awards gala on Sunday, May 9 at 7 pm.

Competitions
International Competition 1 – 5
The International Competition (IC) is the beating heart of the festival. The best of current animated shorts from around the world are shown in this section. Films are humorous, contemplative, creative, or critical.
Young Animation 1 – 4
The Young Animation Competition (YA) shows selected animated short films made by students of international film and art schools. Young animation artists from different countries tell touching stories, create fantastic worlds and open up new perspectives.
Tricks for Kids 1 – 4
The Tricks for Kids competition programme is this year’s gem for our youngest animation fans. Each and every story told through the animated films is as diverse and colourful as our world, life and the people within. Discover exciting new worlds and entertaining events that will make you giggle, but also invite you to experience deeply touching occurences of every day life.
Trickstar Nature Award
The competition shows animated short films that deal with the topics of climate protection, biodiversity, environment and sustainability in an informative, entertaining or humorous way.

AniMovie
The AniMovie section offers an selection of outstanding animated features from the current competition for adults (AniMovie) as well as for the whole Family (AniMovie/Kids) and complementary out of competition highlights from recent years.
New World Classic Animation Award
The Award honours the best use of music in an animated short film. Therefore the label has provided five pieces of music for free use. Watch the nominated shorts by international film students here.

Animation Around Europe celebrates Europe’s independent animation scene in curated programmes featuring the best from Portugal, Poland and Slovenia. Exclusively available on one festival evening each are two programmes under the title “Voices of French Animation” as part of the Focus France.

Monique Renault
Monique Renault is a pioneer in European animated film. Her technique is unmistakable: she uses a coloured pencil to bring her animations directly onto paper as drawings.
It is a great honour for the ITFS to dedicate a retrospective to this outstanding artist and pioneer of feminism and social diversity in its 28th edition.
Creating*Diversity
The possibilities of animation are as diverse as its artists. Creating*Diversity shows how creatives from all over the world create practised diversity. Their films tell (life) stories from different countries and cultures, about people with different religions and sexual identities.

Pandemic Animation
Extraordinary circumstances call for extraordinary measures, and so this extraordinary programme brings together all the diversity of artistic expression concentrated on a theme that the world is unanimously fed up with – actually. And yet it is worthwhile to let these compiled perspectives on the sink in. Humorous, thoughtful, poetic and sometimes even strangely prophetic, the works illuminate life in and after the global lockdown.

In two school programmes for students and their teachers, especially designed for grades 1 to 4 and 5 to 7, we present 8 short films each from all over the world that invite you to laugh, marvel and dream.

School Presentation: Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg / Animationsinstitut
Get to know the latest Filmakademie projects from the entire spectrum of animation and from all years of training – from Cinematic Experimentation 1 and 2 to the third-year and diploma projects of Animationsinstitut students in the specialisations Animation and Interactive Media to postgraduate studies in Motion Design at Filmakademie.
All types and techniques of animation are represented.

How my Grandmother Became a Chair
Nicolas Fattouh’s “How my Grandmother became a Chair” took the first big step from concept to project at the Arab Animation Forum during ITFS 2017. Now the Arab-German co-production is completed and will stream for 48h here in the media library.
