Workshop Talk

Saturday, May 8, 1 pm

How did the animation and VFX industry fare in the crisis year of 2020? The year 2020 will go down in history as the year of the coronavirus – and has also left its mark on the animation and VFX industry. Therefore, we would like to talk with various professionals from the Stuttgart region about how they have fared so far. How has the crisis affected the VFX and animation industry – which is actually independent of filming with many people? What difficulties have the companies involved had to deal with? Have new opportunities opened up? And what are the prospects for the industry during and after the pandemic? The talk will be streamed live free of charge.

They also take a look at the future of virtual reality, not only in the field of free roaming attractions, but also in other application areas.

SPEAKER: Mia Oberländer (Awardee Comicbuchpreis der Berthold Leibinger Stiftung 2021)

ANNA – The very slow Cartoon Movie or: a Comic Book Reading

Thursday, May 6, 10 am

Anna 2 is in trouble: She is too tall. Everyone in Bad Hohenheim knows: mountains are supposed to be tall, but not women. Anna 1 (the mother) must restore her reputation. Things should be better for Anna 3 (the daughter). In the grey area between a visit to the cinema and a literature lecture, the comic reading is awaiting adequate attention. Although it cannot boast a frame rate of 12 or even 24 frames per second, with 3 seconds per frame it offers enough time to view the individual illustrations – set to live dialogues by the illustrator herself and with selected sound effects. Mia Oberländer will read from her graphic essay “Anna“, for which she was awarded the Comicbuchpreis of the Berthold Leibinger Stiftung 2021. The story is about three women with the same first name, about being different and about a recurring problem. At ITFS, the artist will also show how many a comic page becomes an animation all by itself.
