Best of Animation 2 – Idols and Dreams
26. April , 19:00 - 20:30
All films I selected are built on brilliant cinematography, I picked them from my professional filmmaker’s point of view. And organized them according to the psychology of the creator.Another activity of creative people is to produce DREAMS and to construct IDOLS. You don’t need to construct them from wood or use a skeleton with special metal joints. Idols are much stronger then that and even voodoo will not help you to liberate the world from them. Idols become our dreams to destroy us, to twist our reality. How to liberate our minds from them? Three managers and four performers will come. To create a new beautiful ballet. To give us back old idols, served in the middle of our unexpected dream. The ability to transmit to the audience a strong emotion through the art of animation is a powerful weapon. For the audience it means you could kill or get killed, and feel the pain. You could enter the door to the filmmaker’s mind and take a virtual reality-trip to the world created by her or him. I believe in film, and the power of universal cinematographic language. And I hope you will enjoy the Festival and the Best of Animation programme as much as I do.Olga PärnFilmmaker, Tallinn

Dear Mr. Vivaldi, I apologize for making my own interpretations. It was presumptuous to introduce animals that you certainly didn’t have in mind. I wanted to depict autumn that includes it all – humans, animals, hunters, the hunted, dreams and reality.

A Parade for three managers and four performers. Composer Erik Satie created the ballet music piece “Parade“ in 1916. Mixing the music with quotes from Satie’s essays, this film is an animated re-creation of “realist ballet” images going beyond reality.

Karl is tired of the burden of fame that oppresses him and he decides to liberate himself from it. He returns to life among so called ordinary people, after which he crosses paths with fame-seeking Marilyn. Ordinary Karl is the force that turns Marilyn into an idol of the masses. But not for long.
